BIO:

What sets me apart from the rest?
A unique perspective

My name is Karley Ziegler Mott and one of the most sought after freelance beauty writers, editors, and brand ambassadors in the United States because I love what I do and I excel at it. Writing is a passion. I am so lucky to do what I love on my own terms and to be able to do this from home.

PRINT EXPERIENCE

I am a freelance writer at USA TODAY and their Modern Woman magazine. I have been hired to write articles for Gannett on topics such as seasonal beauty trends and style. I have served as the print and online Beauty Editor and Social Media Manager for Hope for Women magazine. An expert in my field, I have been featured in Martha Stewart Whole LivingGreen Mom Magazine, and Canadian Living. I am a regular contributor to CosmoBiz Salon Magazine.

I have been writing for decades, though. I actually began writing for publication when I was a sophomore in high school. I was so passionate about writing that I convinced the editor of our local weekly newspaper, The Times, to hire me as a freelance reporter at the age of 15. I covered everything ranging from school board meetings to sports scores to the rising number of AIDS cases in our rural county.

I really loved writing and was honored to be chosen my senior year to attend a journalism conference for teens in Washington, DC hosted by Cokie Roberts of ABC News.

BEAUTY INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

I got away from writing for several years because life took me in another direction after college: the beauty industry.

While I was pursuing a degree in Political Science, I worked part-time for Lancome. That little gig showed me that I had another passion: makeup and skin care.

I spent years working as a makeup artist, esthetician, and in management for major beauty brands. I also trained other beauty advisors on makeup application, skin care, and sales techniques. Companies I worked with included CliniqueClarinsEstee Lauder, and Laura Mercier.

I have online sales experience in the beauty industry, having achieved a quarter million dollars in sales and leading a team of 170 Jamberry consultants in a 21 month period and have worked as a Brand Ambassador ("Passionista") for the Estee Lauder-owned company Prescriptives.

After a long hiatus, I returned in the field to Cargo Cosmetics, working as a Regional Education Specialist, training beauty advisors for department stores and doing makeovers. I have freelanced for Exuviance, which is a dermatologist-developed skin care brand owned by NeoStrata.

I continue to be educated on the latest trends and techniques in this industry.

ENTREPRENEURIAL EXPERIENCE

I launched my own line of organic and natural skin care products, KZM Facial Care Boutique, in 2007. My company garnered international attention after my best-selling product was featured in Body + Soul (now called Whole Living), a Martha Stewart magazine. This line was sold to customers across the globe and was also featured in the gift bags at a major film festival. By using social media, delivering the best product and best customer service, I increased sales by over 300 percent in just 1 year.

In 2009, due to some health issues and the fact that my two children were quite young and needed me much more, I closed my business to focus on family and my own sense of wellness. I turned my hobby of creating jewelry into a small business as well, and my Loubird Handmade pieces were sold in boutiques across several states and were featured in the Democrat and Chronicle and Subculture Magazine.

Anything I want to sell, I can sell and will sell well-- and that includes YOUR business.

BLOGGING EXPERTISE

While I was running my business, I began a blog called Chic and Green (now The Beauty Blogger). My first post was in 2007 and I soon re-discovered that writing was my true passion.

I have returned to my writing roots and I love it here. My writing has been published on websites across the globe, in newspapers, and magazines. Blogging is a true passion because it allows me independence. I can be choosy about topics I cover and I can feel free to share my true opinions.

I also served for one year as a community blogger for our local, Gannett-owned newspaper, the Democrat and Chronicle. With my expertise in skin care and beauty, though, I've found that my true niche is the beauty writing arena. I have done freelance copywriting for other beauty blogs, as well as day to day blogging for natural and green beauty companies. My own blog is an award-winning blog with readers around the globe.

I know what it takes to have a successful, well-received blog. My blog(s) themselves have been written about in Canadian Living magazine, Green Mom Magazine, the Democrat and Chronicle (our city's largest newspaper), Apartment TherapySpry Living magazine, and in Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Life. The Rochester community also nominated Chic & Green a finalist for Rochester's Best Blog by City Newspaper.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

I have been using Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter for years. I started using Instagram last year. All are necessary for your company's success, in my opinion. I have experience creating and maintaining these accounts for beauty and skin care brands.

I am well-versed in Asana, Hoot Suite, Buffer, Tiny Torch, GroSocial and Social Sprout.

BLOG OUTREACH

I have six years of professional blog outreach experience. This entails researching relevant, high traffic bloggers and establishing relationships with them in order to get products reviewed and written about. Basically, I get YOUR products in the hands of bloggers who will write about your products. Then I promote the posts via social media, send hand-written thank you notes to each and every one and then continue to build on our relationship.
